I think we have all been there, been exercising and sticking to a strict diet for weeks on end only to jump on your scales and see that your still the same weight? or you weigh even more than you did the week before? dont worry yourself! there are many factors that will cause this type of worry, so keep reading to find out!

So lets deal with the most obvious ones first: -

Scales: The obvious one would be your scales, if you have a scale at home you bought it might be a better idea to start measuring your self, or finding more realistic scales like at a gym, or even go to your doctors. Most of the time its scales that are broken, not calibrated properly, sensitive or just darn stupid, start doing measurements of yourself like your chest, arms ect to get a better idea.

Muscle: As you are exercising and working your muscles they will tear and rip slightly, and when you eat or take your protein shakes your sending protein into your body which builds and repairs the muscle tissue making the muscle a little bigger and thicker every time. Building muscle will happen at the same time as you are losing fat, as long as your new to this kind of exercise, so stepping on the scale and you see yourself a few pound heavier, but you dont look or feel fatter, its most likely to be muscle which is a great thing! if you want to find out for sure, try doing body measurements of your chest, arms ect to be more specific.

Water: Your body naturally retains water, i mean come on we are literally made of water mostly so its only normal. Your scales might go up depending on what you eat, how much you drink, how much sodium intake you have, all these factors can cause you to hold and retain water, also creatine does too.

You can drop water weight quite easily, from doing a lot of cardio wearing a sweat suit or plastic bags, eating a lot of carbs and eating a lot of foods high in salt will do this to you, so dont worry if the scales are up and down all the time, just stick with it and keep going for another week and check again then, if your still not losing weight, check your diet to make sure your not missing anything, and if thats not it, you might need to get yourself checked out at the doctors just in case.

For you ladies out there water retention can be caused by other hormonal factors and your monthly cycle, so normally around the last week before you start your cycle 92% of you will retain water weight, up to 5-10lbs of water weight in fact, and this can be every month so relax, dont stress and you will be fine.

So you can basically drop and lose up to 10lbs within a few days of just cutting carbs and salt intake, watching what your eating, and working up a sweat.
